Ghee skincare, shipping, and rituals — answered.

About Our Products

What is Inherited Skincare?

Inherited Skincare is a British skincare brand rooted in Ayurvedic tradition. Every product is built on organic ghee — clarified butter used in Ayurvedic skincare for over 5,000 years — blended with active botanicals including turmeric, saffron, sea buckthorn, calendula and gotu kola. Our formulas are CPSR certified, made in the UK, and free from synthetic fragrance, parabens, sulphates and petroleum derivatives. The brand was inspired by the skincare rituals of Grandma Leela, whose Ayurvedic wisdom has been passed down through generations.

Is ghee the same as clarified butter you cook with?

Culinary ghee and cosmetic ghee start from the same process — slow-simmering butter to remove water and milk solids. But this isn't cooking ghee repackaged as skincare. Our washed ghee is assessed for cosmetic use and formulated into products that go through the safety, stability and quality checks expected of modern skincare. The ghee in Inherited Skincare products is organic, cosmetically tested and certified safe for skin application. We do not recommend using cooking ghee directly on skin, as it lacks standardised testing for topical use.

Is ghee comedogenic? Will it clog my pores?

No, washed ghee is non-comedogenic. The traditional washing process removes the milk solids and impurities that make raw ghee heavy. What remains is a light, silky balm that absorbs into the skin rather than sitting on top of it — suitable even for combination and blemish-prone skin.

Are Inherited Skincare products vegan?

Our products are not vegan — they contain organic ghee, which is a dairy derivative (clarified butter). They are, however, cruelty-free: we do not test on animals at any stage, and neither do our ingredient suppliers or manufacturers.

Can people with dairy sensitivities use ghee on their skin?

In most cases, yes. The clarification process removes milk proteins (casein and whey) and lactose — the compounds responsible for dairy allergies and intolerances. What remains is pure clarified fat, free from milk proteins. If you have a severe dairy allergy, we recommend a patch test and consulting your GP before use. If you are unsure, email us before purchasing and we can advise.

Are the products free from fragrance?

All Inherited Skincare products are free from synthetic fragrance. The scent you notice comes entirely from the natural ingredients — saffron and turmeric in the Radiance Serum, calendula and sea buckthorn in the Overnight Cream, oat in the Cleansing Balm. These natural scents are mild and generally well-tolerated by fragrance-sensitive skin.

What are the products free from?

All products are free from: parabens, sulphates (SLS/SLES), synthetic fragrance, petroleum derivatives (mineral oil, petrolatum, paraffin), silicones, PEGs, formaldehyde-releasing preservatives and artificial colourants. Every formula is CPSR (Cosmetic Product Safety Report) certified for use in the UK.

Is Inherited Skincare suitable for sensitive skin?

Yes. All Inherited Skincare products are formulated for dry and sensitive skin. They are free from common irritants — synthetic fragrance, sulphates, alcohol. The Deep Nourishing Cream and Cleansing Balm are particularly well-suited to reactive or barrier-compromised skin. We recommend a patch test if your skin is severely reactive.

Where are your products made?

All Inherited Skincare products are made in the United Kingdom, manufactured by a UK-based cosmetic laboratory. Every product holds a CPSR (Cosmetic Product Safety Report) — a legal requirement for cosmetics sold in the UK. We use organic ghee and sustainably sourced botanicals.

Routines & Results

Which product should I start with?

It depends on your primary concern. For very dry skin, the Deep Nourishing Cream is the most versatile starting point — face and body, morning and evening. For dullness or pigmentation, the Radiance Serum targets uneven skin tone from day one. For a full ritual, start with the Cleansing Balm and Overnight Rejuvenation Cream — cleanse and repair every evening. You can also take our 2-minute Skin Quiz for a personalised recommendation.

What order do I apply the products?

Always go thinnest to thickest. The general order: Cleansing Balm (first, on dry skin) → Radiance Serum (on damp skin) → Deep Nourishing Cream (morning) or Overnight Rejuvenation Cream (evening).

How long before I see results?

Most customers notice softer, more hydrated skin within 3–5 days. Visible improvement in dry patches, texture and skin comfort typically comes within 1–2 weeks. For pigmentation and dark spots, allow 4–6 weeks of consistent use — the brightening botanicals (saffron, turmeric) work gradually and gently, which is what makes the results lasting.

Can the products be used during pregnancy?

Our products do not contain retinoids, essential oils at high concentration, or other ingredients typically flagged during pregnancy. However, we are not able to give specific medical advice. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, please consult your midwife or GP before introducing any new skincare product. You can email us for the full ingredient list of any product.
